Madeline grew up with a keen awareness of the dangers of alcohol, as her family had a history of alcoholism. Despite this knowledge, she had her first drink at the age of 17. However, it didn't take long for Madeline to experience overwhelming anxiety whenever she consumed alcohol.
During a year-long trip to Australia, alcohol started to dominate Madeline's life. Recognizing the need for change upon her return to Canada, she knew she had to make significant adjustments. Although her drinking didn't lead to any severe consequences, she understood internally that it was a problem and that her life could be better without it.
One evening, after a typical night of sharing wine with a friend, Madeline woke up with a firm conviction that things had to change. This moment marked the beginning of her journey towards sobriety.

As the date approached, Daniel recognized that alcohol was not benefiting his life and he had already embarked on what he referred to as a "pre-quit" phase. The previous night which was New Year's Eve, like many others, was filled with alcohol, and it was during breakfast the following day that Daniel experienced a pivotal moment that set him on a path of honesty and the decision to embrace sobriety. Heather knew alcohol was a serious problem in her life and it got to the point where she knew it would kill her if she continued. Over many years, Heather was finding a way to make her relationship with alcohol work even though she knew it was a problem. Growing up in Wisconsin where alcohol always seemed to be flowing. It was no surprise to Heather she would later struggle with alcohol after having her first drink at 12 years old. D Jay McGrath grew up with one thing in mind, making it from a small town in Saskatchewan to the NHL. At 15 when D Jay moved away from home for the first time to play in a bigger hockey market, he could feel the pressure of hockey and being away from home. D Jay would start out with drinking and smoking . As the years went on, the pressure became much more than D-Jay could handle. From far, he was a small town hero with so many people looking up to him for his success on the ice. Things would snowball and D Jay found himself in a live or die situation. On June 6, 2022 D Jay was overwhelmed with the suicidal thoughts of keeping all of his struggles to himself. On that day, everything would change as he made an unexpected trip to his parents' house. This is D Jay’s story on the sober motivation podcast.

Dino had it all or so he thought. Business was great and cash was flowing in. Alcohol served as Dino’s medicine. With alcohol, he felt untouchable and was able to show up in the big moments with less stress and more confidence. Towards the end of his struggle with addiction, Dino found himself completely alone and knew something had to really change. Dino entered a treatment center and checked his ego at the door.
